Panic Ideas

Games

This contains some 60 pages of games. The book contains "Indoor and outdoor games for young people, using little or no equipment". This is generally true. Each game (and there are two per page) has a title, equipment needed and a brief outline of the game. At the back are a small selection of five minute fillers...games that be played on the spot while waiting for the bus...

The book is a sensible 'pocket' size too and a perfect addition to the leaders 'briefcase'.

A Pocketful of Programmes

Games

Whilst the title suggest programme ideas it is largely a resource of games ideas (although obviously the purpose of some is to promote some aspect of the scouting programme...). The format is very similar to the Panic Ideas book (published by the same company too). Each game has a title, equipment, players and time info as well as a short description.

A useful addition is the Incident Hike bases. These can spark off some good ideas for anyone who has to organize such things with around 20 good ideas. These can also form the basis of 'Scouting Bases' in many other competitions.

With some original and useful ideas this becomes another valuable addition to the leaders 'briefcase'.

Take 5

This is full of short filler activities for 8-12 year olds and is a job one to have in your box for those "quick, what are we going to do now" moments.

Games In and Out and Roundabout

A good collection of various games. My only gripe is that it lacks a decent index.

Cub Scout Games

Games

Dating originally from the early seventies this book still has around 90 pages of good game ideas to offer. Some of the classics and favourites are in there along with some that you may well have 'forgot'.

It includes a few pages of advice on running games for cubs which still apply today.

Recommended to stimulate the brain cells and fill in the odd 20 minutes or so.

Cub Scout Games

Games

Cub Scout Games by V. C. Barclay

The Scout Association

Baden-Powell House

Queen's Gate

London

SW7 5JS

ISBN 85165 025 2

This is another one of the 'Golden Oldies' dating from the seventies. It contains around 100 pages of games split into sections such as Activity, Circle, Six Relay, Team, Quiet, International, Acting, Party, Wide and some badge training (remember the Arrow Scheme?).

Much of them remain useful and interesting today. Recommended.

100 New Games & Ideas for Cub Scouts

Games

100 New Games & Ideas for Cub Scouts by A. Davies

Brown, Son & Ferguson LTD

ISBN 0851744443

The third book on this page dating from the seventies but it has been reprinted throughout the 80's too which shows that it can still offer some advice and ideas to today's leaders. As the name suggests there are 100 or so games within including Activity, Ball, Blindfold, Camp, Circle, Party, Quiet, Relay and Team games.

Each game is numbered too which means that you could use it to pick a random game (ask the sixer to pick a number) and helps to find what you are after (why don't all games books do this?).

Worth the paltry few pounds it costs.
